WHAT IS THE FUNCTION OF A FILAMENT IN THE FLOWER ?

Dear Student!

Stamen consists of an anther and a filament. Filaments contain vascular bundle supplying food and water to the anther. Filament holds the anther.

In bisexual flowers,  the filament supports the anther above the stigma, do that the pollen (male gamete) from the anther reaches the stigma easily for fertilisation. Also, long filaments it help in the cross-pollination off flowers. As the anther is held high, air can easily pollinate it.
