what is the irony in the story shady plot?

There are a few instances in the story that bring out the ironical elements. They are:

1. John does not write ghost stories out of choice but still his ghost stories are very popular among readers.

2. John is asked by Helen to restrain people from using the Ouija board but his wife brings up an Ouija board on the same day and throws an Ouija Board party. John is not able to stop her and gets all the more involved himself.

3. Ghosts are generally considered evil spirits and the ones who bring destruction for human beings. In the story, Helen does not cause any harm. Also, John is not frightened with the appearance of the ghost.

The story is about a man who starts getting cocky about his ability to bring forth ghost stories at his will and how he copes with the situation when he realises that he gets (the unwilling) help from a real ghost. the ghost demands a favour from him which he is unable to fulfill. The ghost then plays havoc with his married life leading to various comic situations.this leads to a big dispute with his wife.

There are two ironies in the story-

1.When the poet says"I did not specialize in ghost stories, but more or less, they seemed to specialize in me." :The narrator did not write ghost stories out of choice. He wanted to write other genres. But, his ghost stories were very popular.

2. John said that his wife was never so pretty as when she was doing something she knew he disapproved of: She bought "the duckliest, darlingiest" Ouija board which John hated so much and now she wanted to ask him to be partner of flirtatious Laura Hinkle whom he disliked.

1)the jonh promise the ghost that he will not use ouija board and also stop other's not to use it but he himself use the ouija board and not only that his wife organise an ouija board party at his house

2)the wife of jonh at first said to him that she will go to her grandfather's house and don't want to see him again but in the last she her self talk to the john and also huge him
