What is the point of irony in the events of the chapter Virtually True?

Virtual means something which does not really exists but only seems to exist. It is the story Michael Dawson, a school boy plays virtual games and finds "Sebastian Shultz" who constantly requires saving. Throughout the game Dawson believes that he is trying to crack the game while in reality, the real Sebastian suffered from an accident and his memory was stored in the game. When Sebastian wins the jackpot in the game, the real Sebastian gains his memory and is revived from coma. So the irony in the chapter is that while Dawson was attempting to win the game, Sebastian was regaining his memory with the former's help.  At the end of the chapter, Dawson asks whether everything that happened was real or virtual because both of them are so taken into it that it seems difficult to distinguish between the two.
