predecessor means 'preceding', means hich comes before. If we ask what is the predecessor of 2, we will immediately subtract 1 from the no. 2, and result we get wl be, 2-1=1..

in this case, the given no. is -99. therefore, its predecessor will be, -99-1=-100. hope it clears ur doubt.
note: at negative terms, the num which apperar greater is actually smaller, i..e. if the terms were positive,  100 will be greater than 99, but when negative sign comes before both nos., 100 becomes smaller. :)

                                                                   but +signs will not be shown so it  will be

                                                                    =-99-1
