what is the role dr j watson n characteristics makes him real assistant as private investigator

Dr Watson was an intellectual stimulant when it came to Holmes' investigations as a detective. Dr Watson stimulated Holmes by committing mistakes in his analyses which guided Holmes towards the truth because then he could eliminate the other possibilities as posited by Watson. By noting Watson's erroneous conclusions,he was occasionally guided towards the truth. Dr Watson was like a conductor of light with a remarkable power of stimulating genius without being the possessor of one. Hence, Holmes was in debt of Watson for guiding him towards the truth by his own false conjectures. The relationship between Holmes and Watson was that of companionship with Watson acting as a conductor of light as Holmes himself so aptly puts it. Watson stimulated Holmes intellectually and had  it not been for Watson then Holmes' exploits would not have come to light. Watson has been instrumental in Holmes' investigations, Watson's deductions help Holmes to sift through possibilities and arrive at the truth. Though Holmes was not forthcoming in his deep admiration for Watson's character and mettle yet he deeply cherished and admired Watson for being who he was and as a friend. But Holmes greatly valued Watson's company and assistance in matters of investigation. They had a bond of intimacy which is so deep that they can rely on each other with their lives.
