what is the summary of the chapter "mirror"

The woman does not like the mirror and yet cannot keep away from it because it is also a form of introspection, to meditate upon one's self as reflected in the mirror. The mirror is made of silver and its reflection is exact. It does not have preconceptions, it swallows whatever it sees immediately, without the cloud of love or dislike to colour its perception. It presents the truth, it is not cruel and most of the time it meditates on the opposite wall. The most important thing about the mirror is its reflection of truth, there is no way in which a mirror can lie to the person standing in front of it unless the people manage to delude themselves.

The poem Mirror is all about the role, nature and importance of a mirror in our life. The theme of the poem comes through the voice of the mirror itself. The mirror speaks about its truthful nature in reflecting the reality. It never tampers with the reality while projecting it. It has no preconception or prejudice in showing the truth. The mirror speaks out that its motive is to portray truth rather than cruelty. The mirror compares itself to the eye of a little god which only observes truth. When nobody is in front of the mirror, it meditates on the opposite wall keeping itself always occupied. The mirror thinks that the opposite wall has become a part of it 's life. Except when it is dark or somebody is in front of the mirror, it is cut off from the opposite wall.

The mirror likens itself to a lake when a woman seeks to see her true identity as reflected in the mirror. The mirror points out that it remains faithful and impartial in reflecting her true identity. It never distorts the reality. It is the very nature of human beings to welcome compliments than comments, complaints or sarcasm. The woman is searching for her true identity. However, the harsh truth revealed by the mirror agitates her. When she sees herself ageing in the mirror, she turns away to find her answers in the candles and the moon. She has tears in her eyes and her agitated hands express distress. Despite that the mirror does not flatter the woman about her beauty as is done by the candle or the moon. A woman appears different in moonlight as well as in candlelight. However, when she comes in front of a mirror, the mirror shows her true identity. The mirror regards itself to be very important to a woman as she daily appears before it to see her face. From her youthful days to old age, she cannot but appear before a mirror.

It shows importance in our life and how much our importance is in our mirror. It also tells us that we should accept who we are and never be sad and go forward. We should always know who we are. We cannot erase our face and our body as well. It shows us the true you as well and tries to tell you that this is how you are. It only is being truthful by showing us the true self.

In this poem, the mirror is thespeaker. It is an autobiographical poem. The mirror talks about itself, its surroundings andthe womanwho uses it. In this way, it gives its observations in an objective way without any personal bias. The mirror say that its appearance is silver and exact. It does not have any pre-conceptions or anything else about its existence. It is just what it is "Unmisted by love or dislike". It is neither cruel nor biased nor prejudiced, only truthful.

It can be calledthe eyeof a little god, four-cornered, that is, it is framed in a four cornered frame and it remains fixed on the wall and sees theoppositewalland onlywhen someone comes between it and the wall or at night or in darkness, the reflection of theoppositewall goes away.

The mirror is like a lake, it drownsthe face ofthe woman, who tries to see her reflection in it. She searches for her, beauty which she had in her youth. She grows sad to see herself old now. She then turns to "candles" or the moon "which the mirror calls "liars" because these create a misted kind of surrounding aroundthe woman's face due to which she does not see the wrinkles or signs of old age. Butthe woman's real identity is revealed by the mirror. Seeing her changed face, the womansheds some tears and moves her hands angrily.

The mirror is very important tothe woman. Every morning she sees herself and she is filled with her fear at her reflection of having grown old. She feels like a fish outof water, but the mirror can't do anything as it reflects only the truth - that is what one really is. So, in this way, the mirror claims to be a very objective opinion giver or reflector of images.its help u.ANAMIKA
