What objections did the sepoys have to the new cartridges that they were asked to use?

A new rifle had to be introduced in the army.It was called as Enfield rifle.The cartdriges of this rifle were covered with greased paper wrapper.The sepoy had to bite off the greased wrapper before loading the cartdrige( which consisted of gunpaper and iron ball )into the rifle. News spread that the grease was made from the fat of cows and pigs. Hindus consider the cows sacred. They neither kill it nor do they eat beef. Muslims consider the pig dirty and do not eat pork. Hence, sepoys of both communities were enraged at such disrespect. They felt that it was an attempt to make them outcastes.

TheSepoy's believed that pork and cow fat was added in the making of the grease proof paper which was used to wrap the gunpoweder and lead ball together of the new rifle that was introduced.A soldier had to bite off the top of the paper holding the gunpowder and the ball. Hindus consider cows sacred and do not eat beef. Muslims also consider the pig dirty. Hence sepoys of both the communities were enraged. They felt that it was an attempt to make them outcastes.

{NOTE :I used the word believed in the first sentence. But, masses say that they were left untouched by this event.After all INTERPRETATIONS DIFFER IN HISTORY}

They have greased paper cover on the rifles which had to be bitten off before the cartridge was loaded into the rifle and it was believed that grease composed of beef and pig fat

the new cartridges,which were suspected of being coated with the fat of cows and pigs. The hindu and muslim had to bit each other. and here cows were holy for hindu's and pig were non-holy for muslim's .....

objections to sepoys were that cartridges were made of fat of cows and lard of pigs and this animals are impure for some of the relegion .so the sepoys refused
