• What type of liquid have CONCAVE meniscus ?
  • What type of liquid have CONVEX meniscus?

Hi Tanu!

A convex meniscus occurs when the molecules of the liquids have a stronger attraction to each other (cohesion) than molecule-container attraction (adhesive forces). Example: Mercury

A concave meniscus occurs when the inter-molecular interaction of the liquid is greater than that of the liquid-container attractive forces. Example: water.

CONVEX meniscus

The liquids which does not wet the glass forms convex meniscus. The force of attraction between the liquid molecules is stronger than  the force of attraction between the liquid and glass. e.g. MERCURY (Hg)

CONCAVE MENISCUS

The liquids whichwets the glass forms convex meniscus. The force of attraction between the liquid molecules is lesser than  the force of attraction between the liquid and glass. e.g. WATER (H2O)
