In today's society most countries have turned to the democratic ways. This type of government is run usually by a Presidential Republic or a Parliamentary Republic. This being said Chile itself changed from a Authoritarian political system to a more of Democratic system. Chile is now run by an elected president. Before any president was ever elected it had been run by a right wing military dictatorship. Up until March of 1990 Chile was basically a dictatorship. Throughout this period before the change occurred multiple forms of censorship and repression of the media dominated the production of mass communication. Which in turn caused negative treatment towards the left side of the government when they received coverage. Even after all of this the first four years of the democracy where characterized by excellent relations between the government branches. On top of that Chile has been credited with having a very stable transition into democracy. Contrary what the military did bad for the society the framework that they set up in 1980 may have lead to a stable government. Chile is and will continue to be one of those countries described as a multi party system. What seems to be a problem though is that Chile has not had to deal with a major economic or political crisis. One thing is for certain these problems are bound to happen be it ten years from now or twenty. Chiles Legal system is a lot like the United States law. Their type of law is ordinary law or in other words common law. These laws that are made come from the Legislative branch. Mostly they deal with specific subjects. To have something approved it requires one reading in each House of the National Congress or the Senate. This is called the Chamber of Deputies which has eighteen standing members . While the Senate has nineteen. Next with a simple vote of the members present at the time all while being sanctioned by the President of the Republic. Congress also has a residual power to approve a law in specific matters . Even with all these processes that have to been done for a law to get passed a cancellation or in other words veto is still available. The Only authority with this power though is the President. This veto though can be overridden by two thirds of the members National Congress.
