Generally,the dress code were imposed upon the members of different layers of society​ through actual law called sumptuary laws. With the help of these laws there wa an attempt​ to control the behaviour of those, considered​ social infirior, preventing them​ from wearing certain clothes​, consuming​ certain foods, alcohol and also hunting game​ in certain areas​.
