Where are minerals found in India. Explain in 5points as it's for 5 marks. Need quick n correct ans. 2maro exams. Pls help!!

Minerals are usually found in “ores”. In India the major ore belts can be discussed as given below:

Ferrous Minerals: Ferrous minerals account for about three fourths of the total value of the production of metallic minerals. Important ferrous minerals are;
1. Iron – iron ores are found in sedimentary rocks occurring as beds and layers. They form as a result of deposition, accumulation and concentration in horizontal strata.

Magnetite and hematite are the main iron ores. Main reserves of iron ore are fond in the belts of;
  1. Maharashtra-Goa belt: State of Goa and Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra.
  2. Orissa-Jharkhand belt: Badampahar (high grade hematite ore), Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar  and the Singbhum districts.
  3. Durg-Bastar-Chandrapur belt: Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra (very high grade  hematites).
  4. Bellary-Chitradurga-Chikmaglur-Tumkur belt: Kudermukh mines in Karnataka region  (large reserves being 100 % cent export unit).

  1. Manganese: Orissa is the largest producer of manganese ores in India. It accounted for one-third of the country’s total production.
   Non-Ferrous Minerals
India does not have very rich deposits of Non-Ferrous minerals but has satisfactory reserves of copper, bauxite, lead and zinc.

  1. Copper: Balaghat mines in Madhya Pradesh (52 % of India’s copper).
                       Singbhum district of Jharkhand (leading producer of copper).
                       Khetri mines in Rajasthan are also famous.

  1. Aluminium: Aluminium is extracted from bauxite, a clay-like substance. Bauxite deposits are formed by the decomposition of a wide variety of rocks rich in aluminium silicates. India’s bauxite deposits are mainly found in;
        Amarkantak plateauMaikal hills Orissa (largest bauxite producer) and Panchpatmali deposits in Koraput district (most  important bauxite deposits in the state).

 Non-Metallic Minerals
 Among the non-metallic minerals India has good deposits of mica.
 Mica deposits are found in;
  Chota Nagpur plateau.
   Koderma Gaya – Hazaribagh belt of Jharkhand (leading producer).
   Rajasthan (major mica producer around Ajmer).
   Nellore mica belt of Andhra Pradesh (important producer in the country).

Rock Minerals
Limestone is a very good rock mineral which has many uses in construction industry. It is found in  association with rocks composed of calcium carbonates or calcium and magnesium carbonates. It is found in sedimentary rocks.
