A mansabdar can be defined as an individual who holds a mansab, or a position or

rank. A mansabdar was only paid when he maintained his cavalry men and got his horses

branded. The left money further was to be given as salary to his men. The mansabdars

received their salaries as revenues given by the Jagirs. These Jagirs were like iqta.

However the Jagirs did not settle as administrators. They only had the right to collect for

them.
