Who were residents ?
- A resident also known as Resident Minister is an officer who becomes the permanent resident of another country.
- In India, the East India Company employed Residents after the Battle of Buxar in 1764 in many Princely states including Gwalior, Lucknow and Hyderabad.
- The Residents had to promote the importance of the Company and were known for their implied rule over the Indian states.
- All through the Residents, the Company strengthened their control by deciding the heir to the throne, whom to be engaged in managerial posts, etc.
