Function of Placenta: 

The exchange of materials between the mother’s blood and the blood of foetus takes place through placenta. It serves as a nutritive, respiratory and excretory organ of the foetus.

The placeenta is a disk shaped tissue which is embdded in the uterine wall. It contains villi on the embryo's side of the tisuue. On the mother's side are blood spaceswhich surround the villi. This provides a large surface area for glucose and oxygen to pass from mother to the embryo. In this way embryo gets it nutrition. Thus we can say that embryo gets it nutrtion from the mother's blood through placenta.
