Why 82030'E has been selected as Standard Meridian of India ?

it is selected as the central meridian of india as it divides india into 2 equal parts

82 30 has been selected as the sandard meridian of india because the time lag from western to eastern most part of india is two hours . since 82 30 divides india into two equal halves it balances the time , therefore it has been selected the standard meridian of india

India is situated from west to east in about 30 longitudes. It takes 4 minutes to cross a longitude. India is situated between 68’7 E to 97’25 E. Hence there is a two hours difference in the timings of the westernmost extremity and easternmost extremity. If there is no standard meridian in India we have to advance our watch by 4 minutes on eacg longitude, if we have to travel from west to east. In order to avoid the problem we have chosen 82’30 E as standard meridian and its local time is taken as the standard throughtout the country.

Because of the vast longitudinal extend of the mainland. Thus, there is time-lag of two hours from Gujarat to Arunachal Pradesh. Hence, time along the standard meridian passing through Mirzapur is taken as the Standard Meridian.

Hope it helps.

In order to avoid the difficulty in selecting the longitudes at the eastern or western ends as Standard meridians and to have a uniform time across the country 82 30 E has been chosen as the Standard Meridian as it passes through the middle of India reducing such differences.

From Gujrat to Arunachal Pradesh there is a time of 2 hours. The time along the standard meridian of India (82o30E)  passing throug the whole country.

IN INDIA DUE TO VAST LONGITUDINAL EXTENT,THE TIME DIFFERECE BETWEEN THE EXTREME POINTS IN THE EAST AND WEST IS 2 HRS.THE SUN RISES TWO HOURS EARLIER IN ARUNACHAL PRADESH THAN IN GUJARAT.IN ORDER TO AVOID CONFUSION OVER THE TIME DIFFERENCE AT PLACES IN OUR COUNTRY,THE LOCAL TIME ALONG THE STANDARD MERIDIAN OF INDIA(82DEGREE 30EAST)PASSING THROUGH MIRZAPUR IN UTTAR PRADESH IS TAKEN AS THE STANDARD TIME FOR THE WHOLE COUNTRY.

The actual standard meridian of India is 82066 '. But it is not according to the International norms. And the number (here 82060 ') should be divisible by 15/2 or 7.5. That is why 82030 ' is taken as the standard meridian of India which helps us to recognise India 's time.

Indian Standard Meridian (82˚30’E meridian) passes through UP, MP, Chhatisgarh, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh.

We have selected 82°30 E as our longitude because -
(a) It passes almost through the centre of our country >
(b) It is exactly 5 and the half hours ahead of Greenwich
(c) ther is a general understanding among countries to select a meridian which is a multiple of 7°30 .

820 30'E  has been selected as standard meridian because there is a time lag of 2 hours from Gujarat to Arunachal Pradesh. So we want to mark a central point of India. The actual central part is 820 66'E but according to international norms it should be divisable by 71/2 0 so nearest calculation is 820 30'E.
