why alkali metals are powerful reducing agent ?

alkali metals have general electronic configuration of [Noble Gas] ns1 which makes them having 1 electron extra from their nearest stable configuration . So they gets oxidised i.e. lose an electron and act as a reducing agent(the substance which undergoes oxidation is reducing agent)....

Because alkali metal have more tendency to loss one electron in their atom

Since the single electron is donated by group 1, it is called a reducing agent (and isoxidized). Therefore also the -1 valence (i.e. Chlorine) is called the oxidizing agent (and is reduced). Always remember “ger” (Gains Electrons is Reduced) and “leo” (Loses Electrons is Oxidized).
