why are alkali metals not found free in nature?

Dear Student

The alkali metals are not found in free state in nature as they have only one electron in their valence shell. Also, they have the largest atomic radii and highest ionisation enthalpies. So, they have a strong tendency to lose their valence electron and change to unipositive ion.
Hence, they are generally found as salts.
Hope, this answers your question.
Cheers!
