Why are gas thermometers are more sensitive than mercury thermometers?

Gases are more sensitive to the temperature than the mercury. That means gas expands more than the mercury for the same increase of temperature.  Hence the gas thermometer is more sensitive than mercury thermometer.

 well gas molecules are more largely spaced than the liquid molecules.

hence, the displacement made by the gas thermometers could be measured more accurately than the mercury thermometers
