Why did industrial revolution lead to imperialism?

The Industrial Revolution caused European nations to search for new places to colonize. Industrial nations wanted colonies for two reasons. First, they needed markets in which to sell all the goods pouring out of their factories. Second, they needed cheap raw materials to make manufactured goods and to keep industries running.
