because he thought that the albatross was the cause of that smog.

The ancient mariner killed the albatross without any solid reason. He just had a sudden and strong impulse to kill the bird. He later on regreted his action.

the mariner kills the albatrooss for no apparent reason; he might have thought the albatross was bad luck. the bird is symbolic of nature which the mariner had no respect for when he shot it.

he migt have been jealous of the bird. as when the bird cam everyone was enchanting about the bird or he might wanted to be the center of attraction by killing the bird.

when we asked our ma'am...the first thing she told was that, this was a poem written ..i guess in the 18th century,m not sure...but long before. So,never use logic .when something is mentioned in the poem.It is like that and nothing else is explained after. So,the thing is that the mariner killed the albatross for no reason.Out of impulse or maybe he got annoyed.Anything can come.We also hv a ques ..dont v?

and what ash786 gve is also correct, since it can b even that.

so why he killed it is not further explained in the poem.

He didnt kill the bird just for fun... Some kind of  mysterious feeling in his mind made him do so.. This is what our teacher told. The ancient mariner later on regreted for having the bird killed. He himself didnt realize that why did he ever shot the Albatross

He did not kill the albatross for any reason. He just killed because he saw the bird and he also saw the trigger bow.
