why did the ancient mariner stop the particular wedding guest to listen to his tale?

2. what is the poet trying to convey through this poem?

Hello,

@Geetashri, The answer to the first part can be:

In this ballad, the ancient mariner is overburdened with the crime he had commuted by killing the albatross. Thus, in order to get relief from his guilt by confessing his crime he tries to tell his story to everyone who comes near him.

The answer to the second part, as cited by Chitra and Sreekar, can very well be compiled by you.

@Chitra and Sreekar, very well done! Keep it up!

He has mesmarising eyes.He can stop any one.He stopped him because he is coming at last.More over he noticed him as innocent. If this is not right you have to ask the poet S.T.coleridge

the poet is trying to convey that we should not bring harm to anyone because who harm and think ill of others can never experience peace of mind .it is well said that mysterious are the ways  of god.god sees truth but waits .the sinner is punished sooner or later in life !
