why does jute and cotton fibres burn with a sootly flame where as synthetic fibres of nylon and polyster melt while they burn

Dear Student.
Please find below the solution to the asked query.

Cotton and jute fibre contains cellulose. Cellulose burns vigorously and produce a powdery ash with sooty flame.

Cotton fibres allow air to pass through them due to which they burn easily whereas synthetic fibres (nylon and polyster) don't allow air to pass through them due to which they burn slowly and melt.
