Why is depletion layer depleted of free charge carriers?
When we combine P and n junction of semi conductor, flow of electrons from n side and flow of holes from p side occurs therefore they form a region called depletion region.
Now there are electrons in p side and holes in n side.
When electrons try to flow from n side to p side, holes do not let them leave because of force of attraction similarly electrons do not let them enter because of force of repulsion, therefore depletion region is depleted to free charge carriers.
