Why is direct combination reaction also called synthesis reaction

Combination reaction is also known as synthesis reaction because in these reactions, two or more substances chemically combine to form a new compound.  The general equation used for representing a combination reaction is

 A + Z AZ

Here we can see that two chemical substances are forming a new chemical substance AZ. In other words, a new chemical substance is being synthesised. This is why combination reactions are also known as synthesis reactions.
