Why is electron gain enthalpy of chlorine is more than fluorine?

Hi,
The size of fluorine atom is small. As a result, there are strong electron-electron repulsions in the compact 2p-orbital. Thus, the electron gain enthalpy of fluorine is less negative than that of chlorine.
Hope it is clear to you.
Best Wishes!

electron gain entjhalpy of electrons can be increased down the group so f has less negative than chlorine
