Why is it 5 :30 p.m in India and 12 :00 noon in London ?

1.In London the time of Greenwich mean time (GMT) is followed and in India we follow Indian standard time (IST) located at 82030' East of the Prime meridian. Therefore India is 5 hours 30 minutes ahead of London.
2.This can be calculated with the help of following concept : Earth takes 4 minutes to cover 1 degree longitude.
Hence to cover 82030' or 82.50,Earth will take 82.5 ×4 =330 minutes or 5 hours 30 minutes.
3.Thus If it is 12:00 noon in London, in India it will be 5:30 p.m.

In London, the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) is followed. The Indian Standard Meridian is located 82½east of the Prime Meridian. Thus the Indian Standard Time (IST) is 5 hours and 30 minutes ahead of GMT. So, when it is 12 noon in London, it is 5.30 P.M. in India

THIS IS BECAUSE LONDON AND INDIA IS LOCATED ON DIFERENT LATITUDES IE. INDIA LIES ON 75: DEGREE EAST AND LONDON LIES ON7; WEST (GREEN WICH WICH IS SITUATED IN LONDON LIES ON 0: DEGREE). FOR eg. DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TIME OF 1: DGREE EAST LATITUDE AND 2: EAST LATITUDE IS 4 MINUTES. SO 75+7=82/4=5.4666666 APPROXIMATELY 5HRS 30 MIN
