Why is it written 'Image are closer than they appear' in the rear view mirrors of the vehicles ?

Hi Ruddhi!

The rear view mirror is a convex mirror. So it sees a larger area. If we see a larger area in a small mirror, then it is reasonable to understand that things are smaller which corresponds to further away. The images formed on a convex mirror lies always between the focus and the pole of the mirror. The distance between the focus and pole is small. So, we mentally realize that the images appear closer on the mirror.

Cheers!!
