Why is the filament of the electric iron put between mica sheets?

Hi,
Mica sheets are used in electric iron or electric kettle (heating devices) for insulation.

These are best suited material for industries for providing insulation in terms of cost, durability and other thermal properties apart from providing insulation from electric shock.

Mica is a non-conductor. so, it prevents shock.

ANS: Mica is invaluable in the electrical industry because of its unique combination of physical, chemical and thermal properties, low power loss factor, dielectric constant and dielectric strength. Dieletric strength is the ability to withstand high voltage without puncturing. Therefore it provides protection against high power electric fillaments used in electric iron and other  electical heating appliances.
