chennai receives rain due the moonsoon wind which come in south-east direction so chennai receives rains in winter but in mumbai the monsoon travels south west direction from the western ghats so mumbai gets rain during summer season.

the south west monsoon is of two divisions arabian sea branch and bay of bengal branch .mumbai receives rainfall from the arabian sea branch  from the advancing monsoon whereas in the bay of bengal branch the winds donot bring very much rain in advancing monsoon so chennai receives rainfall in retreating monsoon in winter

Mumbai is situated on the Arabian sea and receives all its rain from the Arabian sea branch of the advancing south west monsoons from June - September only.
Chennai is situated on the Bay of Bengal it receives rainfall from the retreating monsoons.

mumbai receives more rainfall as shahrukh khan lives there and as he is very hot he sweats a lot so it rains while in chennai rajnikant lives and he is dark so scientifically he absorbs all the heat as he is a dark object and provides rain shadow to tamil nadu

Both in Chennai and Mumbai in coastal region, but Mumbai is in Arabian coast, Chennai in Bay of Bengal coast. During Summer, South West monsoon blows from Arbian coast, Moisture content is high when it blows through Mumbai, hence Mumbai gets more rain in summer, when it reaches Chennai, moist content is almost dry; so Chennai is not getting any rain in summer.
