why r cloudy nights warmer than the calm and clear nights?

When the sun's rays hit clouds, they are reflected back into space, never reaching the ground. Thus, cloudy days are cooler than sunny days.  However, at night clouds act as a "blanket" preventing heat loss from the earth.  As a result, cloudy nights generally are warmer than clear nights.
