Why the new born babies are exposed to sunlight?

It helps the baby produce vitamin D, and it can help treat newborn jaundice. Jaundice is caused by an excess of a chemical called bilirubin, which is normally eliminated by the liver. However, a newborn's liver takes a few days to process this chemical, this is why they need the exposure to sunlight. But, not under direct sunlight as their skin is very sensitive.
