Why we are not able to hear infrasonic and ultrasonic wave?

The design of the human ear is such that it is only sensitive to frequencies ranging between 20 - 20000 Hz. Anything above or below this range would be inaudible to us. Range of Infrasonic waves are below 20 Hz and Ultrasound waves are above 20000 Hz. Therefore, we are not able to hear infrasonic and ultrasonic wave.
