Why white phosphorus kept immerse under water ??

White phosphorus is stored under water as it is only slightly soluble in water and it can be stored under water. Indeed, white phosphorus is only safe from self-igniting when it is submerged in water. It is, however, soluble in benzene, oils, carbon disulphide, and disulfur dichloride.

it is stored in water because it is highly reactive in the atmosphere. So it has to be stored in the water

It is kept submerged in water because it is a highly reactive metal and when it is exposed to air it reacts with oxygen and starts burning it is because its ignition temerature is low.

but  why we dont keep it in kerosene oil , kerosene will also prevent it from oxygen (air )..
