There has always been a political debate that whether India should adopt the bi party system. The following arguments in favour and against the bi party system will give a better understanding:

Arguments for:

a. Bi party system will provide for political stability in the system of governance.
b. The party so elected will represent the majority section of the population.
c. It will provide for strong opposition.
d. It will reduce the scope for ambiguity and will provide clear choice to the voters.
e. It will provide for a more responsible government and opposition will keep a thorough check and can provide alternative to the people.

Arguments against:

 a. It is not suitable for a country with diverse interests like India.
b. There is not enough choice for the voters. Voters choice gets restricted only among two parties.
c. It may lead to cabinet dictatorship by the winning candidates as it increases the chance of the same party to win again.
d. It leads to polarisation of a society into two distinct groups and ideologies.
e. Weaker, disadvantaged section, minority groups may not get representation.
