This social evil is deep rooted in Indian ethos and the most shocking fact is that the innovative and hard high end technologies are brutally killing the Indian girl child. Innovative techniques, like biopsy, ultrasound, scan tests and amniocentesis, devised to detect genetic abnormalities, are highly misused by number of families to detect gender of the unborn child. These clinical tests are highly contributing to the rise in genocide of the unborn girl child.

In today’s day and age most couples prefer the process known as a planned pregnancy, because of various factors; prime amongst them being the financial well being to support the birth and nurturing of a child. In such cases, the first prenatal visit actually happens prior to actual pregnancy, to see whether one is ready to go off the contraception pills and conceive a baby.

We all are proud citizens of India. The need of hour is to realize our responsibilities and give a halt to this evil crime. What can we do to curb the brutal and undesirable practice of mass killing girls? A determined drive can initiate a spark to light the lamp and show the world that we all are part of the great Mother India..

Save the Children is the world’s leading independent organization for children that works to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. Our founder Eglantyne Jebb drafted the 'Declaration of the Rights of the Child' in 1922 which was adopted by the League of Nations in 1924.

Save the Children works to bring about a world in which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development and participation.

Save the Children actively works with the communities, the State governments and the National government to bring lasting changes for the most marginalised children by:

  • Providing them with immunisation and nutrition.
  • Ensuring that they have a chance to join formal school.
  • Exposing and preventing exploitative child labour practices and running prevention programs.
  • During emergencies, we provide emergency supplies as well ensure that children are protected in safe places as well continue schooling.

“Save the Girl Child”

It is said that god created mothers because he could not be present everywhere. It is unbelieveable to realize that a god's representative is countinuously killing someone beautiful even before she can come out and see the beauty of nature. Let us consider some facts -

In india , she is the goddesses to be revered , in the form of Laxmi ( Goddess of wealth ) , Saraswati ( Goddess of knowledge ) and Sita ( ideal consort of Lord Sri Ram ) and even in the form of Durga ( Killer of evil ) but does that happpen in real life ? The picture in real life is quite different.

India is growing dynamically in every field. Today , the boom in economy , innovative technologies and improved infrastructure has become nation's pride. The country has witnessed advancement in all fields but has the country given equal opportunities to the boys and girls?

India has examples of woman who have risen from ashes like phoenix and done the country proud. There are numerous examples to mention, The country had an able prime minister in Indira Gandhi and now H.E. Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil , the first female president of India.   India's first woman IPS officer Kiran Bedi, who had braught great laurels to her profession in the country, Kalpana Chawla , the first female astronaut from India. The list is endless.   then Why the girl child is denied the basic human right of   taking birth through female infacticide and female foeticide?

Jawaharal Nehru , the first Prime minister of India has said - “ You can tell the condition of a nation by looking at the status of its woman”.

As regards status of girl child -   “It is believed that every year 12 million girls are born in the country but unfortunately only 1/3 of those survive. Some are killed in the womb , some at the time of the birth, some die due to ill health and some due to poor nutritional status. Only a few number of girls are able to survive till their 15th birthday”.

GIRL CHILD IN TODAY’S SOCIETY
The female child in India has been most vulnerable for centuries. We are committing   the worst crime against humanity when we don’t even allow children to be born just because they carry the stigma of being girls .The poor infant girls have no choice because they are killed inside the womb of their mothers or killed after birth in parts of Bihar ,Tamil Nadu ,Rajasthan and other parts of India.
We forget that only girls take care of their parents and their in-laws also. they are always giving a helping hand. Only girls when they get married take care of their children. They are really responsible for any duties they take on. Usually girls are the topper in board exams. Still we don’t welcome them. Then ask yourself why do we behave like this?
