Child marriage- Child marriage was a social evil where children were married off at a very early age. They were not allowed to receive education, specially girls. The Child marriage Restraint Act, also known as the Sarda Act was passed in 1929. It fixed the minimum age for the marriage of girls at 18 and for boys at 21.
Sati system- Sati was a barbaric social evil in the 19th century. In this, a women was burnt alive on the funeral pyre of her husband. The most vocal opponent of this practice was Raja Rammohan Roy.He termed it inhuman and began a campaign against it. His persistant efforts yielded results and sati was declared illegal in 1829.
