write character sketch of frog and nightingale ?

The nightingale is simple hearted, innocent and unsuspecting creature. she is a symbol of innocence.she has no ill- will against anybody.she respects all and thinks that all are like her.that 's why she is easily deceived by the sly and willy frog.she is also timid, obsequeous and fawning.

The frog has a boastful and patronizing nature. He also portrays jealousy as the nightingale surpasses him in term of singing and admiration from a crowd who loathed his voice.
He is also condescending, and scolds the nightingale in every mistake she makes in an attempt to lower his rivals self-confidence & self esteem. He succeeds in doing so.
He is also shown to be money minded, with a capitalistic character (selling the nightingale's song for money).

Frog - The froog is portrayed as a very cunning creature. He claims to be a famous undisputed and unrivalled creature, and even tells the nightingale that he is the owner of this bog. He earns ticket money from her concerts and also charges her for training. Thus he is very money minded and greedy. The frog 's inconsiderable and selfish nature robs the nightingale 's song of its liveliness, originality and spontanity. Later he blames her for having no indivisuality and for lacking originality and freshness. This shows that he is a hypocrite.

Nightingale- The nightingale is a talented singer. She is very obliging, and on receiving a rich applause from the creatures of the bog, she redily sings for them. She is very simple minded and gulliable and fails to see through the frog 's plans and beleives him.She is greatful to the frog for training her and unwittingly allows herself to be exploited. She is hardworking though, and practices throught the day,in all kinds of weather even though she becomes sleep deprived as she is 'terrified to fail '. In the end, she is unable to take the humiliation and pressure of the frog any more, and dies of a burst vein.

In the poemThe Frog and the Nightingaleby Vikram Seth, the character of the frog is portrayed as diametrically opposite to that of the nightingale. The frog is shown to be irritating, proud and disdainful. As we see, he is boastful of a talent he doesnt possess. He sings loudly in a coarse, harsh voice that disturbs everyone. Everyone in the jungle hates him. But all this doesnt affect him. The frog also feels jealous of nightingales popularity. He is also very cruel and greedy as he forces the poor nightingale to sing day and night without taking rest in order to make more money. In this way, he is not a likeable character.

On the other hand, the nightingale is unconfident, timid and shy. But she has a beautiful, melodious voice that makes her very likeable. When she sings for the first time, she impresses everyone instantaneously. Visitors from far off places come to listen to her voice. But she is not proud of all this at all. In fact, she lacks confidence and faith in herself. Not only is she unaware of her own talent, she makes a big mistake by believing strongly in the frogs judgment of her song. Of course, one should accept criticism positively and try to improve, but not without a careful self-reflection. She bursts her vain in the end and dies. In this way, she can be called as a gullible, tragic character.

Frog: He is very cruel and clever. He used the nightingale for his own means.
Nightingale: She is very innocent and gullible. She followed the advises of the frog and thus, fell into the pit.
