write the charachter sketch of mrs. Jordan and Mrs. Smith

Mrs. Jordon is a stout and complacent woman. She is impassive and always has an irritating air around her. She is very witty and sharp. She holds the capacity to drive a hard bargain over things to gain possession. She too is a greedy person who takes every opportunity to criticise the Slaters and finally decides to take her father with her just for the sake of money.

Nothing as such has been described about Mrs. Al Smith. However, we can make out from the text that she was a very rich film star who lacked time for trivial things to be taken care of in her life. She was not an emotional person at all and rather believed in professionalism. She cared less about the villa and more on completing the transaction as soon as possible because she had decided to bring it down in order to re-construct the entire area. (to be continued based on one's own judgment)

in the play, the "dear departed", both jordan and smith were envious, opportunist as well as very mean. They always were in search of chances to grab their parents valuables. Rather than being sad at heart to their so called dead father, they were n chances to grab all the valuables and belongings. this shows that both of the woman were not at all affectionate towards each other nor did they follow their filial obligation towards their parents and considered him as a burden

"The Dear Departed" brings out clearly the disintegrating familial values. Both the sisters are mean, selfish, greedy and unscrupulous daughters. Even when he is not dead, they grab his belongings in a very clear and crafty manner. See their hypocrisy!! They are hellbent to show their greif in a kind of fashionable way but inwardly they are non-grieving. Mrs.Slater doesnt waste even a minute to grab his bureau and clock. They do not tink of performing last rites if their father who is 'dead' but show more concern for their dresses and cups of tea. They have no moral compunction for inherited moral values which make life a good experience.

The play beautifully portrays greediness in the characterization of both these sisters. It also delineats the 'cure' of such human beings in what Abel, their father does to them. Thus both the sisters are something to be detested.

Hope this helps ... :D
