Supreme Court defers decision on AIPMT Re-examination till June 15

Uncertainty is growing for the 6.3 lakh students who appeared for AIPMT 2015. The Supreme Court has deferred the decision regarding re-examination for AIPMT 2015 exam till June 15, 2015.

The court reserved its order on pleas seeking cancellation of the AIPMT held on May 3, 2015 and re-examination proposed on the basis of alleged paper leakage.

As of now the police have been able to identify 44 beneficiaries while it is suspected that over 700 students benefited from the paper leak. The bench noted that “The examination stands vitiated even if one student is being benefited illegally”.

However, Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar, appealing for the CBSE, opposed this saying, “6.3 lakh students cannot be made to take the exam afresh when only 44 students have been found involved in taking benefits through unfair means.” He also added that if a re-examination is ordered, it will take atleast 3 to 4 months for the entire process. So students might end up wasting a year.

“We are fully aware of all this. The bigger issue is that the sanctity of the examination is under suspicion. We want to be doubly sure that there is no alternative but to order re-conduct of the examination,” the bench had said, adding that it does want to take a decision “in haste”.

So now the AIPMT 2015 aspirants have no option but to wait with bated breath for the Supreme Court’s decision on June 15, 2015.

The result for All India Pre-Medical Test 2015 was initially scheduled to be declared by CBSE on June 5, 2015. But the Supreme Court had stayed the result of the AIPMT 2015, due to allegations regarding the leaking of the AIPMT question paper. A restraint order had been put by the Supreme Court till the 12th of June, till further investigations are concluded.

A vacation bench passed an order on PILs that were filed by students who alleged that there was a leak of the question papers in the AIPMT exam conducted on May 3, 2015. The police investigation is still underway.

According to Haryana Police’s initial report, 25 students had been identified as beneficiaries of the racket, but the number has now gone up to 44. The Supreme Court wanted the police to identify all the beneficiaries so that they can be eliminated from the results. The Supreme Court is hearing petitions asking for a re-examination and has stated that it would not prefer a re-examination if all the beneficiaries were identified and eliminated for AIPMT result. However, there is also the possibility that the police might not be able to trace all the beneficiaries, and in that case a re-examination might be possible.

I think it would be very difficult for police to identify all the beneficiaries..so re-examination must happen with making sure that no individual is getting any advantage..
