The class 10 CBSE board examinations 2015 commenced from March 02. Science was the second exam for class 10 board which tested the patience of  students. Much to their relief the exam turned out to be an easy one.

Key Highlights

 

Section A: This section comprised 24 questions, in which students found the first three questions to be very easy. Questions with weightage of five marks was found to be easy which also had a passage based question. Questions were generally straight, but the section was considered to be very lengthy and time consuming, particularly so for question No.20.

Q 20: (a) State the laws of refraction of light. Explain the term absolute refractive index of a medium and write an expression to relate it with the speed of light in vacuum.

(b) The absolute refractive indices of two media ‘A’ and ‘B’ are 2.0 and 1.5 respectively. If the speed of light in medium
‘B’ is 2 × 108 m/s, calculate the speed of light in:

(i) vacuum,
(ii) medium ‘A’.

Section B: This section had direct questions as it was a multiple choice questions section. The questions asked were not complicated, which did not take up much time of the students. In general, the exam was simple and students felt that it could be very scoring.

The paper did have a few tricky questions though. Here are some of those:

Q 15 (i) Planaria, insects, octopus and vertebrates all have eyes. Can we group eyes of these animals together to establish a common evolutionary origin? Justify your answer.

(ii) “Birds have evolved from reptiles”. State evidence to prove the statement.

Q 28 Four students P, Q, R and S traced the path of a ray of light passing through a glass slab for an angle
of incidence 40° and measured the angle of refraction. The values as measured by them were 18°; 22°; 25°
and 30° respectively. The student who has performed the experiment methodically is

With regard to the weightage of the topics covered, Carbon and its compounds from chemistry, How do organisms reproduce from biology and Light ­Reflection and Refraction from physics had the highest topic-wise weightage.

Overall, if students were well prepared and the preparation was thorough, good results can be expected for class 10 for this paper.
