CBSE introduces 3 new vocational courses for classes XI & XII

After being the beneficiaries of changes introduced by CBSE in class X with respect to CCE and grading system, students in class XI will soon have the option of choosing to study courses such as Mass Media, Geospatial Technologies or Hotel Management at the plus two level. The Human Resource Minister Kapil Sibal last week introduced Mass Media Studies (academic/vocational), Geospatial Practices (vocational) and Hotel Management and Catering Technology (Vocational) as three new subject offerings for the students studying in CBSE class XI from the academic year 2010-11. As a pilot project, these three courses will be introduced in a few select CBSE schools across India.

The curriculum material and textbooks for Mass Media Studies has been designed by CBSE in collaboration with noted film maker Subhash Ghai’s Institute-Whistling Woods International. Apart from poviding study resources, Whistling Woods International will also run a compulsory training course for teachers every 3-4 months so as to ensure that they are in sync with the teaching requirements of the subject. Rolta India Ltd. is the resource partner for the course on Geospatial Practices. It will help develop and create the curriculum, provide technical assistance and also impart advanced training to CBSE teachers across the country.   The curriculum for Hotel Management and Catering Technology has been jointly designed by the National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology (NCHMCT).

With several more vocational courses in the pipeline CBSE is all set to change the flavor of school education. Now all you students in class X and lower classes can indeed look forward to going beyond the Science, Commerce or Arts streams in schools in the near future.

Cheers!
