Saying is easier then doing.

Dropping a year is a very difficult task. You can ask this to any student who has dropped a year. After some months of studying you might even get frustrated studying the same portion again and again. But that frustration disappears if you are highly determined and you love your subject

It’s always advisable to join a college and prepare for JEE, AIEEE, AIPMT or any other exams simultaneously since it will lower your stress to perform on that D day and if by some chance you are not able to clear JEE ,AIEEE or others then you have backup which is continue your course.

Chances of getting bored and depressed is also high. You might even think that what if I don’t perform well in those 3 to 6 hours. However joining some coaching classes is always worth since it will help you to stay motivated.

How Can a Gap Year Help?

For goal-oriented students, a gap year can be extremely beneficial in gaining perspective. And barring extreme circumstances, many students are able to pick up where they left off after a short break. Here are just a few of the benefits to taking time off before enrolling in a college program:

  • A gap year lets students take a step back and “recharge” after years of the daily academic grind.
  • Time off allows students time to think about their academic direction and professional goals before jumping in with both feet.
  • A focused year towards studies can land you in IITs or AIIMS. That too with a good rank.
  • You are transformed to a stronger student specially that kind of 1 year single minded devotion can be really helpful to you throughout your life.
  • If you also plan to get a hand on experience of how your career will eventually shape up . Getting voluntary work experience will be are great resume-builders and can result in increased focus and maturity—qualities that all competitive colleges like to see in prospective students.

How Can a Gap Year Hurt?

For some students, the gap year is an unproductive experience, especially if they take it for the wrong reasons or fail to establish a clear plan. Take a look at some of the negative effects of taking a break before college:

  • For students who fail to develop important habits, it’s easy to lose focus and fall out of the academic routine.
  • Watching friends and classmates move on to college before you can be disheartening.
  • Lots of stress on you to perform on that particular D-day
  • Students who wait sometimes lose access to guidance counselors, peer support, and even scholarship resources that they had fresh out of high school.

How to Plan for a Successful Gap Year

To make the most of a break from academic study, many students join a part time course which is relevant to their future pursuits,  consult books and Web sites on college planning; talk to their high school counselors, college admission representatives, parents, and trusted teachers; pursue an internship or volunteer opportunity; and seek advice from other students. Be sure to analyze your goals and reasons for dropping an year before committing to something that could have a major impact on your degree pursuit and subsequent career.

I feel dropping an year after 12th is is not a bad option. All it takes is how you utilize the year. Productive utilization can bring glories and an unproductive utilization can only result in waste. My elder sister after dilemma decided to take drop for a year and prepare well for the exam. Her first attempt was a great learning to her. She came to know many point where improvements were needs and with her efforts as well as catalyser her coaching institutes confidence on her, she was able to clear IIT with a good AIR rank and is studying in IIT Bombay now…….

    Hi Aninpreet

Going for the best school available in class 11th is the safest bet . It ensures you always have a back up option and more importantly, the AIPMT syllabus is more aligned to CBSE syllabus and also is of similar difficulty level. So it does make sense to study school syllabus diligently. Ideally, dummy classes aren’t one’s best bet. For more information you can always drop in your queries at testprep@meritnation.com
