After a couple of days, Sachin Tendulkar, by far the most revered sportsperson of our times, will retire from all forms of cricket. We have loved his game and will remember him as the man who was instrumental in inspiring children and adults alike by the sheer consistency and the passion that he brought to the game.
As he plays his last test series, we at Meritnation decided to pay him a tribute and bring to you some takeaways from his life and the legend that Sachin Tendulkar is.

Hard work never fails
Sachin is famous for his disciplined approach towards his game. Did you know that he has never been late for a net practice session? In fact, he has always been before time. The takeaway here is that even when you have reached the pinnacle of success or are working towards making your dreams come true, you have to be disciplined about the work you are putting in. Sachin Tendulkar, even after playing for 24 years, practices his game every single day. How can someone who is so diligent be anything less than perfect? So, if you are good at Math, don’t become overconfident; practice sums each day. Do a different chapter if you are bored of doing the same thing over and over again. Challenge yourself to push your boundaries and see the difference.

A Winning spirit triumphs each time
Sachin’s life has not been easy. He was declared a child prodigy very early in his life and one would expect that he would not have to face criticism at all. But he too has had his share of ups and down. Injuries, bad form, scathing criticism from all corners whenever India lost a match, are only some of the roadblocks he faced during his journey to “divinity”.
What is inspiring is that he’s never-say-die spirit has always helped him bounce back! Just look at the slew of match winning comebacks he has made after being severely criticized! So dare to dream and work towards it, with a dogged perseverance and victory will definitely be yours in the end.

Humility and honesty are still the best policies to follow
It is not very often that you come across a person who has captured the imagination of the entire world, yet is so humble and honest. There have been moments in Sachin’s career where he has been judged unfairly in the game, wrong calls have been made, acute criticism has been aimed at him to shatter his confidence – but in every game one sees a dignified humility in the way he plays and behaves after game is over, that makes him stand out. It is this quality that we need to cultivate.
Be open to criticism, learn to identify your weakness and yet have it in you to never be bogged down by the distracting nature of criticism and unfair decisions. You know your dream better than anybody else. You know your strengths, you know your weakness and you should also remember that only you can make or break your dream. The little master walks TALL. Always.

Maintain your calm while under pressure
We know it is difficult, but remaining calm when things are spinning out of control is something one must pay attention to. It is so difficult to not get intimidated by peer pressure or audience pressure. To have innumerable hopes riding on you, is indeed terrifying. Yet we need to learn to not lose the head on our shoulder and give our best shot at whatever it is that we are focusing on.Andrew Symonds had once said “Sachin is the man we want to be”. True isn’t it?

Thank You Sachin Tendulkar for a wonderful innings and we wish you the very best for your 200th Test Match at Wankhede on the 14th of November!
