If one considers the amount of time a student spends in school, on an average a student has to spend about 7-8 hours in school everyday. In a year, a student will have to go to school for around 175 to 210 days, which leaves about 110 to 145 full days available for self study, in addition to the 75 days of holidays (including summer vacations, winter vacations and other holidays).
From the above calculation, you can see that there is enough time available at home to study for your entrance exams. However, students generally tend to take the 1st 4 months after Class X exams very easy, and lose out on the time available during the summer vacations for starting their entrance preparation. Not only students, but schools also go easy on their curriculum during this time. They start picking up momentum only after 15th of July, which is too late.
By July end, the half yearly exams are just around the corner and the prescribed syllabus is completed in a hurry. The results are inevitably unsatisfactory and it is this time when most students get panicked and lose confidence.
So, in short if you are serious about cracking the entrances, it is important that you prepare your annual study plan right in the beginning of Class XI in April. This will give you a headstart over everyone else. Also, remember that you will get 50% more time for preparing for entrance exams if you utilize the summer vacations for coverage of your course.

I know IIT-JEE is a very tough nut to crack, but it is not impossible even. But where I lack behind is I don’t know what to read really for getting into IIT, which books will give me the best concepts, which things should I really prefer for getting into IIT.Some Meritnation Team I hope you understand my problems and give me some best suggestions.Please give me some good feedbacks. i know meritnation scince a very long time….i have used it and it has helped me very much but only for the awnser part in back of textbook…because i am not a paid user….sometimes i think what if all this syllabus was free and no need to pay in it….i asked my mom and dad to pay for courses of meritnation but they ignored saying its a usual site…what should i do…please do try and make some paid syllabus for free…i am asking you because i have a lot of trust in meritnation…thank you:):)

It is now much time passed for preparation of entrance exams. But when I was in class 10
I didn’t know all these things. Is there still any chance for me to preparation of entrance exams. If there is then please tell me. I will be highly pleased.

I Wish that all the juniors heed to this article and do not repeat the mistakes which we all have committed in our classes. This is also a sign for all the Xth graders ( including me ) that all is not lost and we still have time to correct our mistakes and use MERITNATION as a resource to improve and sharpen our skills further.

To, all the people commenting above, dont worry people, its never too late. For time management, i can say that stop doing things which are not important. If you’r goal is to get in IIT, AIPMT, then whenever you are going to do something, just ask what are you doing it for, will it bring you closer to your goal, if the answer is below 50% , dont waste time doing that, concentrate on your subjects. Make your strengths (subjects which you excel) more strong ,this gives you confidence , then move to your weakness( trust me a bit more confidence helps to you to tackle your weakness). Also, i know that you cant study in school( not a place to self study), but there are some days which are just a waste in school(there are some functions etc.) I suggest dont go to school that days( it wont hamper your 75% attendance). Well its up to you, whatever you do, but just remember that 2 years of smart( not hard) work can bring you happiness for the rest of your life ( well paid job, nice card, etc,) and 2 years of negligence can bring you tears for the rest of your life!
