George Eliot was an English writer, novelist and journalist of the Victorian era. She has written seven novels and all of them are set in rural England. George Eliot is known for her realism in understanding the norms of the society and providing a psychological insight into them. In those days, women writers wrote only light-hearted romantic stories and so she chose a male pen name so that her novels would be taken seriously. George Eliot’s works were politically shrewd and most of them were about political unrest. She believed that there was much interest and importance in the country life of England.
