Hello,
The various ill-effects of watching television are:
- Advertisements such as those promoting alcohol and cigarettes have resulted in a large number of youngsters indulging in their consumption.
- It has largely contributed to obesity among people. People usually tend to munch junk when they are in front of the television.
- Televisions, in present day scenario, are affecting relationships between families as people are unable to inculcate the habit of reading books and socializing. Working men and women are finding it difficult to spend quality time together in the family.
- The violence shown on television has adversely affected children to a great extent. For instance, a child may think it is perfectly alright for a man to hit another person because his favorite character did that.
- Some research studies indicate that television is responsible for hampering the development of some areas of the brain that are in control of moral judgment and also attention. That is why many studies also seek to link the relationship between attention and comprehension problems and television.
- Commercials and advertisements misguide customers and lead to extortion and corruption.
There are many other disadvantages which can be listed under this heading.
