Industrial revolution in Europe gave birth to age of industrialization and inventions of machineries. The railways, steamships, the telegraph, were important inventions that transformed nineteenth-century world. Production increased and the requirement for market for distribution of finished goods arose. It gave way for exploration of newer routes overseas and colonies that turned out to be not only markets for the finished goods but source from where "flows" of goods and labour were possible. The labour requirements in London decided the migration of cheap labour from Asia and Africa , the changing patterns of food also decided the agricultural patterns of colonised countries. Besides these conditions, India and China ceased their isolation in the world trade and simultaneous rise of America shifted the centre of world trade in the West. London became the workshop of the world thus, making Europe the centre of world trade in the nineteenth century.
