DEFINE ANALOGOUS & HOMOLOGOUS ORGANS WITH EXAMPLE.

HOMOLOGOUS ORGANS -

They are those that have same internal bone structures, but their function differs.

EXAMPLE -

Wing of a bat, the lateral fin of a whale, and the human arm[ they all have similar bone structure layout, but they carry out distinct functions] -- Homologous structures means they had came from a common ancestor.



ANOLOGOUS ORGANS

They are ones that basically have th same function but not the same underlying structure.

EXAMPLE -

Bat 's wing & Fly 's wing- they both are used to help the creature fly, but they have diff patterns in bone structure.
The similarity of the function also reflects that they are adapted to a similar environment!

homologous organs = same internal structure different origin E.g. forelimbs of frog,lizard,bird,human.

analogous organs = different structure same function E.g. wings of insects,birds,bats .

Homolous organs: It is the type of organs which perform different functions in different animals but are structurally similar. eg- wings of bird and fore limbs of a human.

Analogous organs:It is the type of organ which perform similar function in different animals but are structurally different. eg - wings of a bird and wings of an insect.

Homology is the similarity between characteristics of organisms that is due to their shared ancestry. Homology among proteins and DNA is often concluded on the basis of sequence similarity, especially from bioinformatics.
