I m unable to understand how to convert XXXVIIX to number

2 to the power of 3 = 2 * 2 *2 and 2 to the power of 5 = 2 * 2 *2 *2 * 2. if 2 to the power of x + 3 to the power of y = 43, where x and y are natural numbers, then x + y = ?
