Drug Addiction and Abuse in Youth
Introduction
It is very easy for the youth to catch their interests in negative encouragements, which can cause fatal results if not controlled at an early stage. One of these negative influences is drugs. It's not hard to find drugs, and sometimes it may seem like everyone's doing them or wanting you to do them. But as with anything that seems too good to be true, there are downsides to taking drugs.
Drugs are chemical substance that changes the way our body works. When taken abused drugs find their way into the bloodstream. From there, they move to the brain and other parts of the body. The consumer gets addicted to drugs in no time.
Harmful drugs include alcohol, cocaine, heroin, marijuana, painkillers, nicotine, cigarettes and many more.
What makes a person so helpless to take the support of drugs?
There are several reasons why teenagers and youths from all parts of the globe are addicted to drugs and other types of substance abuse. To deal with drug addiction effectively, it is important to learn about the causes that lead to it.
  • The first and foremost reason for drug addiction is a high level of stress. Stress can be for various reasons. Youth who have moved to another country in search of a job and fail and get caught in the clutches of drugs.
  • Another important cause of drug addiction is peer pressure. As we are living in an extremely competitive age, it becomes very essential to grow in the world. Due to peer pressure, a lot of teenagers and young people feel the pressure to consume drugs, alcohol and smoke.
  • A lot of drug addicts holds psychological trauma as the cause of substance abuse. Around 75% of people who suffers from psychological shock, uses drugs to get cured. 
Teenagers are at a huge risk because drugs are available everywhere illegally. About 130 Americans die every day from an opioid overdose. The opioid is just one type of drug, imagine the total death rate due to all drugs. In a country India, it is seen that drug dealers use teenagers as the transporters of drugs. Many actors are also consumers of drugs.


Drugs have severe consequences:
  • It works on the brain, affecting the ability to make good and healthy decisions. Drug addiction causes the liver of the addict to work a lot harder. This causes a lot of damage to the liver of the addict.
  • A person who is addicted cannot resist using them and unable to function correctly without ingesting them. 
  • Gives the consumer the visit of a virtual world where the person finds his/her fake happiness
  • It affects the remembering capacity of the person and a huge amount of money is spent.
  • They tend to engage in reckless activities such as stealing or driving under the influence.   
Drug addiction can be treated. The various treatment methods are behavioural counselling, medication,  and providing treatment not just for substance abuse but also for many factors that accompany addiction such as stress, anxiety, and depression. There are rehabilitation centres to help people. After treatment, there are numerous follow-ups to ensure that the cycle does not come back.
